hi,.
i am new to here so please be bear with me.. i have always believed in god, but was never baptised, my parents wanted me to make up my own mind religon wise.. i am thinking of becoming a jw and am just needing some advice on how to do this, bible study and jw beliefs.
also do jw say grace and how.. i am greatful of any help.. thanks.
2 Books:
Combatting Cult Mind Control by Steven Hassan. He demonstrates how to decipher dangerous mind control techniques. He never names Jehovah's Witnesses in his book, so he doesn't "have it out for them", so to speak. He was in a mind control group himself and knows the psychology behind what makes such groups effective, and how to spot them.
Crisis of Conscience by Ray Franz. He was on the Governing Body of Jehovah's Witnesses, the highest position in the org. He had insight into what took place behind closed doors. Interestingly, he was never sued for libel.
jwfacts.com works for many, as already mentioned.
here is a journal entry i made in august 2011 when i first started waking up.... .
i finally think i can admit my feelings in writing today.
maybe i should blame it on being a pessimist, maybe it's the truth.
I wish I'd had wrote my thoughts down... good idea.
we know that the watchtower has many corporations.. .
zion's watch tower tract society in pennsylvania - 1881. watch tower bible and tract society of pennsylvania - december 15, 1884. international bible students association, which was founded in 1872 in pittsburgh by charles taze russell.. .
my question is about the international bible students assocation.
Would it be crazy of me to think that maybe the Watchtower is not really against the modern breakaway Bible Students afterall.... ?
I'm not sure if you have in your possession, but the names of and differences in corporations are in OD book. They serve different purposes. One name is used by writing dept., one's a name for researching, one is the name of the org (instead of Jehovah's Witnesses) as used in other countries for legal reasons, etc...
i have!
i worked with hank aaron's daughter for 18 months.
she was a sweet lady.
I used to walk to school with Christopher Reeves after his accident.
Pliny the Elder was in my hall growing up. He was an ministerial servant.
Helen Keller and I were pen pals for a while.
i was thinking tonight about all the wierd stuff that i viewed as totally normal being brought up as a jw.... here's my list.... - eating broken easter eggs after easter was not a sin.
- your car always had to be clean in time for the co visit.
- being assigned to the car park at a convention, with a walkie talkie, meant you had powerful connections.. - the amount of lines and hand writing on your sunday watchtower, spoke volumes of your spirituality.
Eating lunch sat on the pavement at the side of a busy road in 55 degree heat in your best clothes because the assembley hall has a no food or drink policy.
55 degree heat? I hope you're in Alaska! Lol. That's nice and cool. 85 and up is ridiculous where I am....
Here's some weird stuff:
Chewing gum in the hall will lead to fornication. "Faithful in what is least..."
Sports jersies = idolatry
You will sit in back of hall, but front row in a concert
came across this quote from w64 2/15 p.101:.
"when a belief is not correct but is wrong, then it cannot be right at the same time.
the most sincere belief and practice of that belief will not change it from being wrong into being right.

as part of the wt's recent push to get the r&f "to study and recount the history of the earthly part of jehovahs organization" there is a curious article in the from our archives featurette of the august 15th, 2012 watchtower.
it offers a highly sanitized version of early jw history.
but what is particularly strange is this revisionist history re-categorizing of an early bible student/jw, one hugo riemer.
Another huge inconsistency they will have to cover...
i see it posted that many are 'waking up' etc.
but the religion is still growing!
many enjoy the kool-aid.
Interesting thoughts....

I'm scared to admit it, but I think they will continue for a long while....
